Medical Assisting | Registered Apprenticeship

Community College of Vermont

Learn and Earn

Description

Medical assistants perform administrative and certain clinical duties under the direction of a physician. Administrative duties may include scheduling appointments, maintaining medical records, billing, and coding information for insurance purposes. Clinical duties may include taking and recording vital signs and medical histories, preparing patients for examination, drawing blood, and administering medications as directed by a physician.

The medical assisting apprenticeship includes five college-level courses paired with related instruction in a clinical setting. Once you have completed your on-the-job training, you can sit for a certification such as the CCMA.

The medical assisting apprenticeship is a great way to begin working toward a certificate or associate degree at CCV. The apprenticeship includes 15 college credits, which can be applied to the administrative or clinical medical assisting certificates and the health science associate degree program.
