Zoology (BS) | Bachelor’s Degree

Zoology, the study of the behavior, origins and life processes of animals, is a popular and versatile major. Zoology studies range from researching a particular animal and its ecosystem, to human effects on a specific species, to studying an animal at the molecular level. Since zoology is such a diverse field, a B.S. degree will provide you with a strong background that can take you wherever you want to go, in zoology or related fields.

The B.S. program in zoology at UVM requires a mix of introductory level life sciences and mathematics courses. After that, your advisor can help you to choose electives that align with your interests. From Winter Ecology to Physiology & Reproduction, you’ll find electives that challenge, inspire, and mold your B.S. degree into whatever you want it to be.

Psychological Science (BA) | Bachelor’s Degree

The Department of Psychological Science at UVM offers both a bachelor of arts (B.A.) degree and a bachelor of science (B.S.) degree. Which option you choose will depend on your specific interests and whether you are more interested in arts, humanities, social sciences, and languages or with natural sciences and mathematics.

The B.A. option is primarily designed for students who are interested in becoming a practitioner working in an applied setting such as a counselor, therapist, or social worker. The degree is also a good framework for careers in medicine, research, neuroscience, law and business.

Nursing | Bachelor’s Degree

The Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree program draws from behavioral, natural and nursing sciences. Profiessional nursing at the University of Vermont is presented as both a science and an art. Students prepare for professional nursing practice through a rigorous curriculum that promotes the care of individuals with illness and emphasizes health and the prevention of disease. Clinical experience begins in the second semester of the sophomore year and continues throughout the program.

Public Communication | Bachelor’s Degree

Public Communication (PCOM) is the practice of understanding, designing, implementing, and evaluating successful communication campaigns within a framework that serves the public interest. The PCOM program uses communication to inform and persuade, to build relationships, and to encourage open dialogue in organizations and communities toward resilient solutions. This is accomplished by crafting successful messages through the application of research, theory, technical knowledge, and sound design principles.

Social Work | Bachelor’s Degree

This program prepares you for professional social work practice in a variety of settings. This is a classroom and hands-on learning experience that requires extensive self-reflection, processing and engagement. If you’re interested in understanding and working with people and communities based on people’s strengths and guided by principles of human rights and social justice, then our social work program is right for you.

Music Teacher Education | Bachelor’s Degree

The Music Program works cooperatively with the College of Education and Social Services to offer a program in Music Education that leads to both a Bachelor of Science in Music Education degree and licensure for grades Pre K-12. The UVM Music Education program maintains an active presence on-campus as well as within Vermont and the northeast. Music Education students learn the musical and pedagogical skill and knowledge needed in today’s classrooms.

All students interested in majoring in music must first pass an entrance audition on an instrument or voice. In order to complete the major, all students must attain intermediate level on a single instrument or voice; must have or acquire piano skills sufficient to pass the piano proficiency examination; and must pass a junior standing examination, usually at the end of the sophomore year.

In addition, prospective music education students speak with the music education director either on their audition day or over e-mail before joining the program.

Neuroscience (BA) | Bachelor’s Degree

Our neuroscience program features a strong life science foundation and grounding in research methods and experience. The curriculum also gives you the freedom to select advanced courses to prepare you for a wide variety of post-graduation career options, including graduate study, medical school and other health-care career options, laboratory technician positions, and science writing. As a neuroscience major you will join an active, energetic neuroscience research community.

Neuroscience (BS) | Bachelor’s Degree

Neuroscience is an exciting and challenging interdisciplinary field in which scientists study the anatomy, physiology, and function of the nervous system.

Often described as one of the “last frontiers,” neuroscience is the study of the nervous system and how it regulates behavior. Psychology and biology have been the traditional disciplines that share this interest, but fields such as communication sciences, physics, computer science and other diverse fields are also interested in neuroscience.
