The Health Arts and Sciences bachelor’s degree at Goddard offers studies and practices that advance personal and community health. The program begins with students exploring biological, psychological, social, spiritual, and ecological health. Throughout the program, students will learn about: Health Philosophy, Community Health Practices/Modalities, Life Sciences, and the broader context of
health.
This program ends with a senior project. Senior studies engage diverse aspects of care and healing for the whole person.
The Bachelor of Arts in Psychology at Goddard College provides students with a fast track to earning a Master of Arts in
Psychology or Clinical Mental Health Counseling. Opportunities in the field of counseling continue to
require more qualifications and education, and Goddard’s program is up to date on these new requirements.
The Bachelor of Arts in Sustainability at Goddard helps students learn to build a sustainable and just planet for present and future generations. Undergraduate and graduate students may focus their studies on sustainable development, environmental policies, ethics, ecology, landscape architecture, city and regional planning, economics, natural resources, sociology, or anthropology.
As students learn about the diverse, changing needs of their communities, urban and rural, they specialize in a variety of focused areas from climate justice to food sovereignty to local currencies to permaculture and more in ways that are innovative, mindful and lasting. Learning opportunities are limited only by student’s creativity and insights.
Sustainability at Goddard provides every student an opportunity to undertake vital study and work that serves the needs of the earth and community.
The Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Creative Writing is for students who will develop, or are developing, a significant practice as a creative writer in one or more of these literary genres: fiction, creative nonfiction, poetry, dramatic writing, or hybrid forms.
The program supports a variety of genres, including: libretto, television writing, graphic novel, creative nonfiction, poetry, dramatic writing, fiction, speculative fiction, and more.
By the end of the program, students will produce a creative thesis or senior study that demonstrates the skills they’ve learned in the program. Students will leave the program with a complete draft of a creative manuscript that has gone through a number of revisions.
The Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Socially Engaged Art supports artists to create new work that engages with communities. Faculty and students from the performing arts, visual arts, craft practices, and narrative media come together to develop collaborative projects around real issues.
This program is based in participatory art, social practice, arts activism, and community-based art. Students are encouraged to experiment with a range of mediums.
The Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Interdisciplinary Art at Goddard College is designed to help students discover new
creative opportunities and refine critical and expressive skills. Each semester begins with an intensive eight-day residency focused on developing your academic plan, expanding your perspective, and learning within a community of artists.
As students work to develop their personal practice, the program supports them in understanding a broad range of strategies and dialogues that inform
contemporary art. Interdisciplinary work undertaken in the program introduces students to currents in contemporary art and provide examples of how the arts can be woven into public life.
The Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Creative Writing at Goddard supports a variety of genres, including: libretto, television
writing, graphic novel, creative nonfiction, poetry, dramatic writing, fiction, speculative fiction, and hybrid forms. Goddard’s low-residency model allows you to complete your book, play, or script without compromising your other work or family obligations. During the eight-day residencies, students connect in craft workshops, in lectures, and by sharing meals, personal stories, and their creative work throughout the week. By the end of the program, students will have a thesis project that consists of a complete book, play, script,
or libretto.
In this program, students are challenged to consider social justice and empowerment theories to design inclusive, equitable, and accessible practices. Innovation through collaboration and community leadership is what this program is all about. Students will acquire the knowledge needed to advance in their careers or start a new career path, and will gain the needed skills to generate innovative and sustainable methods of solving vexing social, environmental, and economic challenges.
Students may focus on Social Innovation, Sustainability, or take a combined approach.
The Master of Arts in Psychology is designed to prepare graduates to enter into their area of psychology
with the professional skills necessary to advance their career goals. The program provides a specialized
curriculum depending on a given student’s areas of interest. Many graduates earning the Master of Arts in
Psychology go on to become licensed at the master’s level as therapists.
The Master of Arts in Health Arts and Sciences is a multicultural, interdisciplinary program founded on the principle that personal health, community health, and the natural world are three dimensions of the same whole. Students will study health through the different lenses of personal health, family and community health, social health and medicines, and ecological health and medicines. At the end of the program, students take on a final project that may take the form of a scholarly paper or applied project.
