Youth Development Program

The Youth Development Program supports young people who have ever been in State custody. It provides students with one-on-one to help with living an independent life through:

  • Education and career planning
  • Referrals to other types of counseling
  • Accessing healthcare and housing supports

Project Hire

A program of the Howard Center, Project Hire provides career and employment assistance to adults with intellectual disabilities in Chittenden County. Supports and services vary based on the interests and employment goals of each participant. This may include:

  • Employment skill and interest assessments
  • Internships and work experiences
  • Job search development and on going support to job seekers
  • On-the-job training assistance
  • Supports to the employer of a participant

Youth Development Program

The Youth Development Program helps youth with foster care experience transition to adulthood. YDP provides supports and resources to meet the personal interests and goals of each participant in the program. The YDP offers:

  • Case management through local Youth Development Coordinators, including education and career planning support
  • Financial resources
  • Extended foster care beyond the age of 18
  • Leadership and advocacy opportunities

Jump On Board for Success (JOBS) Program

This program of the Lamoille Restorative Center and Spectrum VT is for out-of-school youth ages 16-22 with disabilities. The Jobs On Board for Success (JOBS) program helps participants:

  • Create employment portfolio, develop job seeking skills
  • Secure work-based learning opportunities, such as a job shadow or internship
  • Identify potential barriers to employment and communicate with employers
  • Secure housing

Learn IT 2 Work

Learn IT 2 Work provides Vermonters who have little or no computer skills the basics needed for a job search process and in a workplace. Participants learn how to operate a computer, create documents, navigate the internet (including applying for positions), and use emails. The program is:

  • 20 hours, delivered over 4-5 days
  • Limited to about 10 participants per session
  • Structured for one-on-one mentoring and small group practice

Senior Community Service Employment Program

If you are 55 years old or older and looking to get back into the workforce, the Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) is one place to look for support. The SCSEP enrolls job seekers in paid training positions at public and non-profit organizations.

  • Positions are temporary and approximately 20 hours per week
  • Participants receive the minimum wage
  • Training is provided to participants and many earn industry-recognized certifications

Vermont Returnship Program

Like an internship, a returnship is a short-term on-the-job work experience, though a returnship is geared for adults who are reentering the workforce after time away from their careers. The Vermont Returnship Program helps identify your transferable skills, job skills, and training needs before matching you with an employer. Here are the program highlights for participants:

  • Assessments and career counseling
  • Individualized three-week returnship with employer
  • Paid stipend

The program is a between Associates for Training & Development and the Vermont Department of Labor. Learn more and apply.

Reach Up

The Reach Up program helps parents gain job skills and seek work in order to improve your finances, support your children, and reach your goals. Eligibility is based on a number of factors including your income, living expenses, resources, and who lives with you. Reach Up is administered by the Vermont Department of Children and Families. Benefits include:

  • Services that support work
  • Cash assistance to help pay for basic necessities
  • Case management

Educational Opportunities Center

Adults without a 4-year degree can connect connect with a counselor to talk about your education and career plans. Many adults who access this resource are the first in their families to go to continue their education and training after high school. Services include:

  • Explore your career and training options
  • Figure out how to pay for it
  • Find out ways to set yourself up for success
