How CCV students can get guaranteed admission to bachelor’s degree programs
Are you considering your options for education, and interested in getting started at the Community College of Vermont (CCV)? Or are you a current student or graduate of CCV thinking about pursuing a bachelor’s degree?
Through a new partnership called the Vermont Transfer Guarantee, eligible CCV students are guaranteed admission to participating Vermont colleges and universities. This means you can seamlessly turn an associate degree from CCV into a bachelor’s degree at another school.
How does the Vermont Transfer Guarantee work?
After completing an associate degree at CCV, you have the option to transfer to another college in Vermont and work towards a bachelor’s degree.
You can choose from five schools: Vermont State University (VTSU), Champlain College, Norwich University, Sterling College, and Saint Michael’s College,
For many full-time students, this means spending two years at CCV and two more working on a bachelor’s degree. Earning a bachelor’s degree may take longer than two years depending on the program and how many classes you take each semester.
To be eligible, you need to graduate with a certain grade point average at CCV, ranging from 2.0 to 3.0, based on the college where you would like to transfer. If eligible, you are guaranteed admission, transfer of credits, and junior status at your new college. This makes for an easy, cost saving, and low stress transfer process.
An affordable alternative
The Vermont Transfer Guarantee is a great way to keep the cost of your education manageable. By taking classes at CCV first, you are automatically lowering that price tag. CCV has the lowest cost per credit in Vermont at $280 for instate students and $560 for out of state students for the 2024-2025 academic year.
Traditionally, students applying to four-year colleges must pay a fee before their acceptance is determined. This is not the case with the Transfer Guarantee. If eligible, you do not have to pay an application fee — and you are guaranteed admission.
There are also other opportunities to cut costs. CCV offers many scholarships and grants, such as the 802 Opportunity Grant, which provides free tuition for Vermonters with a family income of $75,000 or less. Each transfer school has its own scholarships that you can apply for, many of which are designed for transfer students. Some financial aid may be automatically awarded to you under the Vermont Transfer Guarantee. You can also use federal and state grants. Grants and scholarships are financial awards that you do not have to pay back.
As always, it is important to fill out the FAFSA to receive federal and state financial aid.
Broad spectrum of pathways
The Transfer Guarantee is not limited to a specific field of study. The partnership links CCV associate degrees to over 200 eligible bachelor’s degree programs. This makes it easy for students in Vermont to find a pathway that aligns with their goals.
For example…
Do you feel confident in your ability to manage others or want to develop business skills? There are pathways from CCV to bachelor’s degrees in business administration, management, marketing, entrepreneurship, and accounting. You could start with the associate degree in business at CCV and then complete a bachelor’s degree in business administration with a concentration in entrepreneurship at VTSU or a bachelor’s degree in business management at Champlain College (online).
Interested in engineering or science? The first step is earning your STEM studies certificate or associate degree at CCV. Then, you can transfer to an engineering program such as mechanical engineering technology at VTSU, an environmental studies program at Sterling College, or a neuroscience program at Norwich. Other options include electrical and civil engineering, biology, chemistry, and physics.
Do you enjoy teaching others? CCV has pathways from early childhood education and liberal studies to bachelor’s degrees in early childhood, elementary and secondary education. After earning a liberal studies associate degree at CCV, for example, you could transfer to VTSU or Saint Michael’s College and work towards a bachelor’s degree in education.
Thinking about a career in healthcare? One potential path could be completing a health science associate degree at CCV, before transferring to a bachelor’s degree program in health science at VTSU, Norwich, or Saint Michael’s. You can also work toward a degree in nursing, public health, athletic training, physical therapy, and more.
These are just some of the many bachelor’s degrees you can link with an associate degree from CCV. No matter where your interests and skills lie, there is an option that will help you meet your goals.
If these pathways sound interesting but you can’t find a program that fits, there are other ways to transfer from CCV outside of the Transfer Guarantee partnership. Learn more about other transfer options on CCV’s website.
There is no one correct way to pursue education. With the Vermont Transfer Guarantee, you can earn your bachelor’s degree with the flexibility of choosing your own path.
