School2Work

School2Work is a program that helps high school students with disabilities get ready for employment. They work with HireAbility and local high schools to support students in finding and keeping jobs before they graduate. This program helps you explore a variety of careers, not just the ones traditionally given to people with disabilities.

School2Work is a year-long program that offers:

  • Career exploration – Visiting job sites, shadowing workers, and learning about different careers.
  • Work readiness training – Practicing job interviews, writing resumes, and building workplace skills.
  • Paid work experiences – Trying out different jobs through internships.
  • Job support – Creating personalized employment plans, getting job coaching, and earning work credentials.
  • Job placement – Helping you find work as they transition out of high school.

School2Work is part of the Way2Work Continuum.

O.N.E. Youth Center

Find a safe environment and build community at the O.N.E. Youth Center in Burlington. The O.N.E. Youth Center is open to all youth in the larger Burlington area, ages 14-24, and offers:

  • A safe and fun afterschool environment 
  • Homework and job assistance
  • Field trips, workshops, and social services
  • Mentorship

Youth Development Program

Find your path to independence in adulthood through education, employment, and other types of support. This program pairs a Youth Development Coordinator with a student (ages 14-23) who is or has been in foster care. Together, you will:

  • Get academic and career assistance
  • Find leadership opportunities
  • Access financial resources
  • Plan for your future after exiting foster care

Multicultural Youth Program

Learn about resources, services, and leadership opportunities in the community to help continue on your dream education and life path. This program staffs a helpdesk at the Burlington and Essex middle schools and high schools, and a Burlington Resource Center available to youth from diverse backgrounds. Through Spectrum Multicultural Youth Program, you can participate in:

  • Youth conferences
  • Afterschool and summer groups
  • A bike club, indoor soccer, & other activities
  • Girls group
  • Academic support
  • Support for personal and wellness goals

Community Center

Getting help finding a job is just one of the services at Pathway’s Community Center in Burlington’s Old North End. Work one-on-one with welcoming professionals and find community no matter what hurdles you’re facing in life.

The Pathways Vermont Community Center is a peer-run community center. The Community Center is a place to feel supported and part of a community. Here you can take comfort in knowing that you are understood and surrounded by supportive energy. The center offers fun and engaging activities, interesting discussion circles, employment assistance and a space to relax, use a computer or wifi, and feel at ease.

Pathways also offers weekly, facilitated support groups for adults. Before attending, please contact Pathways to let them know you would like to attend. These groups cover many different topics and activities.

SUCCEED

A program made to help postsecondary students ages 18-25 with autism and intellectual disabilities have a meaningful and independent experience in the Burlington area. The SUCEED program supports you in these areas:

  • Student housing
  • Campus life
  • Career development
  • Education

Project Hire

A program of the Howard Center, Project Hire provides career and employment assistance to adults with intellectual disabilities in Chittenden County. Supports and services vary based on your interests and employment goals. This may include:

  • Employment skill and interest assessments
  • Internships and work experiences
  • Job search development and on going support to job seekers
  • On-the-job training assistance
  • Supports to the employer of a participant

You may refer yourself, or be referred by other providers, educators, or family members.

Healthcare Job Skills

The Association of Africans Living in Vermont (AALV) provides career support for immigrant and refugee families in Chittenden County. AALV delivers job skills training for those interested in becoming Home Health Aids and Licensed Nurses Assistants (LNAs). They provide technical training and English language assistance to students to help you prepare for education and training, and job placement.

Job and Parenting Skills Training

Access job skills training and other support to help you find a stable job. The Lund Family Center focuses on providing parents in Chittenden County the support they need as parents and for their kids.

Lund provides a variety of family support services focused on young, low-income families who are struggling with incomplete education, lack of employment, parenting challenges, incarceration of a parent, and often, the effects of addiction.

HVAC 101 | Certification

HVAC 101 prepares trainees for entry-level work in the HVAC.  During this six-week course, participants earn credentials to build up their experience and resume. With established employer partnerships, trainees are given the opportunity to receive job placement. A weekly training stipend is provided to all active participants.
