YouthBuild | Certification

YouthBuild students have the opportunity to graduate with their high school diploma, be trained in construction skills earning certificates in Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) 10, National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER), First Aid & CPR Training, and as part-time AmeriCorps members earn an AmeriCorps Education Award.

This program includes or prepares for the following credential(s): National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) Core Craft.

Plumbing & Heating | Apprenticeship

The Plumbing and Heating program teaches students about plumbing and hydronic heating systems. Students who complete the program will be prepared for entry-level plumbing and heating jobs, including a Registered Apprenticeship.

This program includes the following credential(s): ACT National Career Readiness Certificate. Successful students in this program leave prepared with 300 hours towards the Vermont Plumbing Registered Apprenticeship Program, and to test for the first year of the Vermont Plumbing Registered Apprenticeship Program.

Electrical Technology | Apprenticeship

In the Electrical Technology program, you will learn everything you need to prepare for a career as an electrician. Students will install, connect, test, and maintain electrical systems.

This program includes the following credential(s): National Center for Construction Education & Research (NCCER) Construction Core Certificate-Introductory Craft Skills. Successful participation in this program is a pathway to Level 1 Vermont Electrician Apprenticeship. Successful students in this program leave prepared with 300 hours credited toward the Vermont Electrical Registered Apprenticeship Program and an opportunity to take the Vermont Electrical Apprentice Program exam.

Automotive Technology | Certification

Automotive Technology provides training in the automotive service industry. Areas of study include: steering and suspension, brake systems, electronics and engine performance, and General Service Technician training. Students will learn how to repair and maintain automobiles and light trucks. Instruction includes the use of power and hand tools, and an introduction to welding skills.

This program includes the following credentials: Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Entry Level Certification-Maintenance & Light Repair, ACT National Career Readiness Certificate.

Medical Professions | Certificate

The Medical Professions program covers many health careers including nursing, emergency services, home health care, physical therapy, occupational therapy, surgical services, dental assisting, radiology, cardiology, and acute care experiences. Students will learn the basic skills needed for health careers and will prepare for college courses in many medical fields.

Students use 3D anatomy technology in the classroom to enhance learning of the human body and body systems. Central Vermont Career Center is the first school in Vermont to use this new technology. Through classroom learning and by visiting clinics, students will learn requirements of various health care team members, job skills common for patient care, knowledge of the human body and body systems, math skills used by today’s health care workers, medical terminology and communication skills in healthcare settings, and advanced health career exploration through clinical internship.

This program includes the following credential(s): ACT National Career Readiness Certificate.

Emergency Services | Certification

Students in Emergency Services are provided with the instruction required for entry level work or postsecondary training in the fields of Emergency Medical Services and Fire Science. Students will learn problem-solving and critical thinking skills to analyze, synthesize. and evaluate situations by themselves and in teams. They will apply emergency service response skills to manage an incident scene as a first responder. They will make informed, healthy choices that positively affect the health, safety, and well-being of themselves and others. The program begins the year with an initial exploration of Emergency Service classroom work (lecture, readings, and independent study projects) and transition into visits with local experts in the field. Students will participate in ‘ride alongs’ with local first responders and fire departments.

This program includes the following credentials: EMT-Basic Certification, Firefighter 1 Certificate, ACT National Career Readiness Certificate.

Building Trades | Certificate

In Building Trades, you will learn residential and commercial skills starting with the basics. Along the way, you will learn the principles and skills of general carpentry.

This program includes the following credentials: National Center for Construction Education & Research (NCCER) Certificates-Carpentry Level 1 & Level 2, National Center for Construction Education & Research (NCCER) Certificate-Construction Core Introductory Craft Skills, ACT National Career Readiness Certificate.

Cosmetology | License

Cosmetology prepares you to put your artistic skills to work making people look and feel their best. Learn all you need for the Vermont State Board of Cosmetology license exam — hair cutting and coloring, chemical texturizing, waxing, skin care, nail services, and makeup application — in the Central Vermont Career Center in-house salon.

This program includes the following credentials: ACT National Career Readiness Certificate.

Successful participation in this credential is a pathway to eligibility for the Vermont Licensing Exam to obtain a Cosmetology License.

Digital Media Arts | Certificate

Digital Media Arts (DMA) students become familiar with digital creative programs and collaborative project-based learning. In the photography unit, students can master cameras and manipulation software. Learn new ways of communicating and work with community partners during our graphic design unit. Or bring your movie ideas to life in DMA II during our filmmaking unit where you gain access to advanced industry-standard camera equipment and learn to master editing software.

Through photography, graphics, film, music, web design, and animation our students master creativity for the entire world of media possibilities.

This program includes the following credentials: Graphic Design Visual Arts Final Portfolio, Adobe Certified Associate-Photoshop, Adobe Certified Associate-Illustrator, Adobe Certified Associate-Premiere Pro, ACT National Career Readiness Certificate.
