Career & College Readiness Support

Sometimes the road to a new career or education program is a long one – and that’s ok. If you are over the age of 16, Adult Education and Literacy providers throughout the state offer free help with:

  • Math and computer skills
  • Reading
  • Writing
  • Study skills
  • Time management
  • Connecting with employment and education opportunities

Youth Development Program

Find your path to independence in adulthood through education, employment, and other types of support. This program pairs a Youth Development Coordinator with a student who is or has been in foster care. Together, you will:

  • Get academic and career assistance
  • Find leadership opportunities
  • Access financial resources
  • Plan for your future after exiting foster care

Youth Development Program

The Youth Development Program supports young people who have ever been in State custody. It provides students with one-on-one to help with living an independent life through:

  • Education and career planning
  • Referrals to other types of counseling
  • Accessing healthcare and housing supports

Youth Development Program

The Youth Development Program helps youth with foster care experience transition to adulthood. YDP provides supports and resources to meet the personal interests and goals of each participant in the program. The YDP offers:

  • Case management through local Youth Development Coordinators, including education and career planning support
  • Financial resources
  • Extended foster care beyond the age of 18
  • Leadership and advocacy opportunities

Jump On Board for Success (JOBS) Program

This program of the Lamoille Restorative Center and Spectrum VT is for out-of-school youth ages 16-22 with disabilities. The Jobs On Board for Success (JOBS) program helps participants:

  • Create employment portfolio, develop job seeking skills
  • Secure work-based learning opportunities, such as a job shadow or internship
  • Identify potential barriers to employment and communicate with employers
  • Secure housing

Career Support

Work with a counselor to help you with any aspect of your job or career journey. The staff at HireAbility Vermont (formerly VocRehab) can give you support with:

  • Assistive technology for anyone living with a disability
  • Benefits counseling so you can access your Social Security benefits
  • Planning your path to employment after release from a jail
  • Finding a job as a mature worker
  • Trying out a new employer in a safe environment
  • Counseling for people with deaf gain
  • Planning after high school
  • Job support for people living with a disability

Adult Education and Literacy

Get the training and job skills you need as an adult to find a job that works for you. Adult learners are Vermonters over the age of 16 who need additional skills or training, a high school credential, or both. No matter where you’re starting from, you can work one-on-one or take classes to improve your skills in:

  • Math
  • Reading and writing
  • Important skills for a job
  • English for speakers of other languages
  • English literacy and civics education
  • Education and career guidance
