Talent Search

VSAC’s Talent Search is a program to help high-potential, income-eligible middle and high school students plan for education and training after high school. Talent Search provides:

  • Support in career and college planning
  • Financial aid assistance
  • Academic support
  • Parent events
  • College visits
  • Summer enrichment programs

Youth Development Program

The Youth Development Program helps youth with foster care experience transition to adulthood. YDP provides supports and resources to meet the personal interests and goals of each participant in the program. The YDP offers:

  • Case management through local Youth Development Coordinators, including education and career planning support
  • Financial resources
  • Extended foster care beyond the age of 18
  • Leadership and advocacy opportunities

Single Parents Program

It isn’t easy being a single parent and student at the same time. The Single Parents Program at Champlain College provides students with supports from case management to community events. Program highlights include:

  • Full tuition scholarship for financially eligible students
  • Community workshops and activities
  • On campus support services including one-on-one individualized supports and free in-person and online tutoring, mental health counseling, and career advising
  • Off campus supports from a number of community and statewide organizations

Strengthening Working Families Initiative

The Strengthening Working Families Initiative (SWIFI) helps parents get the skills and support they need to get well paying jobs. SWIFI participants receive:

  • No cost training in manufacturing that leads to industry recognized credentials
  • Support services including childcare, transportation and more.
  • Training supports

If you are an adult looking to go back to school while continuing to work, the Vermont State Colleges System has programs and supports to help, including:

  • Online, evening, and weekend courses
  • Credit for work and life experiences
  • Employer approved courses

Credit for Prior Learning

Get credit for what you already know so you can finish your credential faster and cheaper. You may have learned valuable skills through work experience or live events that are relevant to your education and training program. Learn more about Credit for Prior Learning.

Educational Opportunities Center

Adults without a 4-year degree can connect connect with a counselor to talk about your education and career plans. Many adults who access this resource are the first in their families to go to continue their education and training after high school. Services include:

  • Explore your career and training options
  • Figure out how to pay for it
  • Find out ways to set yourself up for success

Earn Your GED

Vermonters without a high school diploma can earn a GED to show your ability. Anyone over the age of 16 who isn’t enrolled in high school can sign up for the online test. Learn more about the GED.
